We’ve had the pleasure of hosting many families aboard our catamaran, but the Steinforts’ charter through the British Virgin Islands was one for the books! From underwater adventures to on-deck antics, this trip was packed with unforgettable moments and a whole lot of laughter. Here’s a recap of some of the highlights from our week of sailing, sun, and pure fun!
Diving into Adventure: Junior Divers' First Ocean Dive
The trip started with a bang when we took the two boys, Graham and Haynes, on their first ocean dive. Both are already junior certified divers, but this was their chance to truly experience the magic of the deep blue for the first time. Their excitement was contagious, and they handled the dive like pros—exploring the vibrant underwater world around The Indians, one of the most famous dive sites in the BVIs. The visibility was perfect, and watching them take in their first ocean dive was a memory we won’t soon forget.
Later in the week, we dove the wreck of the Codiac Queen, a classic dive site full of history and marine life. It was a perfect mix of exploration, education, and sheer fun for the whole family.
A Hammerhead Shark and Night Snorkeling
One of the most epic moments came during a night snorkeling adventure. While most people were star gazing, the brave boys (which included Race, Graham and Haynes) ventured into the water for some glowing adventure at a nearby reef. The waters were teeming with life, but the real showstopper was a hammerhead shark that gracefully glided by in the moonlight. Talk about an experience of a lifetime! It was one of those moments where you could feel the entire family’s energy light up with awe and excitement.
The Plank Walkers and Fashionable “Punishment”
Of course, no family trip would be complete without a little mischief! The Steinforts had their share of moments where boat rules had to be enforced. We had three “plank walkers” on board, including the girls, Molly and Fran, who found out the hard way what happens when you break the rules of entering the boat dripping wet! In true family fashion, they had to jump off the bow in their dinner ashore outfits and makeup—with full-on drama. It was a hilarious sight that had everyone in stitches, and let’s just say no one will forget that jump anytime soon!
A Birthday to Remember: Grandma Kathryn's Special Day
It was also a very special week for Grandma Kathryn, as we celebrated her birthday while sailing through the BVIs. We made sure to mark the occasion with a beautiful surprise—a red velvet cake that was baked to perfection, complete with candles and a song! The whole family sang to Kathryn, and her smile said it all. What better way to spend a birthday than surrounded by loved ones on a stunning catamaran, cruising through paradise?
Emily Shows Off Her eFoil Skills
As if the trip wasn’t already full of adventure, Emily, the mom, decided to show everyone how it’s done. She hopped on the eFoil (an electric-powered surfboard) and completely kicked butt. It wasn’t long before the whole family was cheering her on, and let’s just say Emily showed us all that the eFoil was no match for her skills. The boys were inspired, and even the dad, Race, tried his hand at it, though he’ll admit Emily definitely had the upper hand!
Race: The Energizer Bunny of the Family
Speaking of Race—Dad definitely brought the energy to this charter! He was always the first one up, the last one to bed, and his personality filled every room (or deck) he was in. Whether he was leading the charge for an early morning scuba dive or organizing the family for an afternoon sail, Race’s energy was truly infectious. He made sure everyone had a blast, and we all loved having him around. His laugh and enthusiasm were the heart of the trip!
Island Hopping & Adventuring Around the BVIs
Of course, we spent plenty of time exploring the breathtaking islands of the British Virgin Islands. From jumping off the famous Willy T at Norman Island to the geological wonders of The Baths at Virgin Gorda, every day was a new adventure. The Steinfort family got to visit the iconic Marina Cay, the quiet coves of Long Bay, and the laid-back vibes of Jost Van Dyke, where we enjoyed a relaxed afternoon at the famous Foxy’s Bar where the crew were almost attacked by a horse and Captain turned into a Texan cowboy.
Throughout the trip, we had plenty of opportunities for fishing, game nights, and enjoying the incredible sunsets the BVIs are known for. And yes, there were a few sunburns along the way (we had to confiscate the tanning oil after a couple of questionable applications), but that’s all part of the fun!
Dinner & Dance Party at Foxy’s
We wrapped up the trip with a bang at Foxy’s on Jost Van Dyke, where we enjoyed an amazing dinner and capped off the night with a dance party. The family let loose, celebrating all the memories made and the fun they had. There was music, laughter, and lots of dancing under the stars—it was the perfect ending to an unforgettable week.
A Trip We’ll Never Forget
From dives to sunburns, family antics, birthday celebrations, and everything in between, hosting the Steinfort Family was a total blast. They brought so much fun, laughter, and adventure to the boat, and we were lucky to have them on board. We couldn’t have asked for a better group to share the beauty of the British Virgin Islands with.
Thank you, Steinfort Family, for the memories, the fun, and the laughter. We hope to see you again on the water soon!
