There’s something truly special about hosting a diving charter in the British Virgin Islands. The rhythm of the sea, the anticipation before each descent, and the shared stories over sunset dinners in the salon all blend into an experience that becomes far more than just a vacation. This particular charter unfolded as a seven-dive adventure, filled with unforgettable marine encounters and a few beautiful firsts along the way.

Beginning the Journey — Brewers Bay, Tortola

We began our week at Brewers Bay on Tortola, easing into the adventure with calm waters and vibrant reef life. Brewers Bay is always a favorite first dive — gentle conditions, healthy coral, and schools of tropical fish welcoming you beneath the surface. For two of my guests, this wasn’t just the first dive of the trip; it was their very first time diving in the ocean. Watching their nerves transform into pure awe as they took those first breaths underwater reminded me why I love what I do. There’s nothing quite like witnessing someone discover the underwater world for the first time.

Crystal Waters and Cathedral-Like Swim-Throughs

Our second dive brought us to Diamond Key at Marina Cay, a site known for its dramatic structure and thriving marine life. Visibility was crystal clear, and the reef pulsed with movement. From there, we made our way to Cow’s Mouth at Virgin Gorda, where towering rock formations create swim-throughs and light-filled corridors. It felt almost cathedral-like underwater — beams of sunlight piercing through the blue as we explored every crevice.

Exploring the Kodiak Queen Wreck

Midweek, we descended onto the Kodiak Queen, one of the BVI’s most fascinating wreck dives. Resting purposefully on the seabed and transformed into an artificial reef, the wreck is now home to schools of fish, colorful coral growth, and curious marine life weaving through its structure. There’s always something powerful about diving a wreck — a blend of history, artistry, and the unstoppable force of nature reclaiming steel and turning it into habitat.

A Standout Encounter at Angel Reef

One of the most unforgettable moments of the week came during our sixth dive at Angel Reef off Norman Island. As we explored the reef, we encountered a massive green moray eel — and when I say massive, I mean truly impressive. It moved calmly through the coral, unbothered by our presence, its vibrant green body almost electric against the reef. The group hovered in respectful silence, completely captivated. It was one of those rare underwater moments where time seems to pause.

The Perfect Finale — The Indians

Our final dive took place at The Indians, and it was the perfect way to end the charter. The site was bursting with life and color. Beneath a coral bommie, a massive leatherback turtle rested peacefully, completely at ease in its world. Not far away, a beautiful nurse shark lay stretched across pristine white sand, quietly napping in the gentle current. It was serene. Calm. Perfect — the kind of dive that feels like a gift.

Life Onboard Between Dives

Back onboard the catamaran, the days flowed just as beautifully as the dives themselves. Fresh meals in the cockpit, laughter echoing across the deck, dive briefings in the salon, and evenings anchored in turquoise bays while golden Caribbean sunsets painted the sky. The balance between luxury above the surface and adventure below it is what makes these charters so special.

More Than Just Marine Life

What stood out most wasn’t just the eel, the turtle, or the shark. It was the transformation of those first-time divers — the confidence they built with each descent, the way their excitement grew after every dive, and the pride they felt surfacing with huge smiles after their seventh immersion of the week. Seven dives. Countless memories.

And another reminder that the BVI never disappoints — whether it’s your hundredth dive or your very first. Until the next adventure beneath the surface. 🌊
